Christmas Preperations

Time to brush this old blog off again. I have 12 people coming over on Christmas Day, a ton of things to do before then, and not much time to do it in. Fortunately I'm home alone the next two evenings, so should be able to get some stuff done, if only I can get my A in G.
  • Wrap Lars' presents.
  • Wrap present for my in-laws.
  • Make homemade ice cream.
  • Fold laundry.
  • Make Christmas cookies (optional). (didn't do this, but it's not gonna happen).
  • Tidy up lounge.
  • Tidy up dining room.
  • Change table cloth to the Christmas one :)
  • Tidy up kitchen.
  • Tidy up library.
  • Clean bathroom (probably not until the morning of the 25th).
Slow start, as I ended up working late yesterday. Today I'm picking up sushi for dinner and then I HAVE to get cracking on all this!

Bedroom Week

I'm trying a three-prong approach this week, getting the kids to work on their rooms at the same time as I am working on ours.  Tomorrow's tasks will be simple and easily accomplished.

  • clear the floor in all bedrooms
  • wash and dry bedlinens and remake beds in all rooms
  • clear the dressing table and bedsides in all rooms

The end of bathroom week

  • clear out the top shelf of the vanity
  • spray mould on skylight with vinegar and wipe off
  • lift out skylight cover and clean
  • buy replacement globes for bathroom heater
  • replace towels and face washers with freshly laundered ones
  • clean the bath
  • mop the floor
  • replace all the bathroom bits (scales, bin etc)

Another Bathroom Day

Gone are the days when I used to have chunks of time to work in a room.  Both kids have started at new schools with new curricula this year and helping them is absorbing heaps of my time.  I get about 15 minutes at a time if I am lucky.  However, I am stunned at what can be achieved in 15 minutes.  Yesterday I scrubbed the bathroom floor in 15 minutes goes spread all over the afternoon.  It felt a bit never-ending, but it looks great  :)
  • tumble dry bath towels, face washers, and bathmat from yesterday washed them but they didn't make it into the dryer)
  • clean shower recess, including all the crevices
  • get a quote for redoing the silicone in the bathroom
  • scrub shower recess floor
  • clean out the drain cap - couldn't get the lid off :(
  • clean out the cupboard behind the vanity

Bathroom Week continued

The bottom of the bathroom vanity is now completely tidied except for the top drawer.  Sorting out the face washers was a huge job as we seem to have acquired more than our fair share over the years.  I have a basketful and then some.
I also appear to have more than enough bathroom cleaners to be going on with.  Several of them will probably get used up this week though.
Today's Tasks:

  • use a toothbrush to get all the dust out of the corners on the floor
  • wipe over the walls with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust
  • scrub the bathroom floor properly
  • clean the front of the bath
  • wash and tumble dry the towels and face washers for this week

Bathroom Week

Last week was Kitchen Week where I focused most of my attention on the kitchen.  I cleaned out cupboards and collected heaps of stuff to donate.
I'm still working on the kitchen, but attention has shifted to the bathroom.  It is hard to find time to do things as the kids are claiming almost 100% of my time.  I find that I get 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there - it's amazing what you can do in 20 minutes if you try lol

BATHROOM
- clean out the bottom drawer,
- clean out the middle drawer
- clean out the top drawer
- throw away unused/unwanted beauty and body products

Home Alone

Home alone tonight so I'm going to use the opportunity to get some things out of the way while still taking care to spoil myself... after all, it IS Friday! :D
  • 10 minutes on cross-trainer.
  • Shop for Rosa's birthday present
  • Wrap said present ;)
  • Spend 15 minutes in hobby room unpacking boxes.
  • Sync iPad
  • Watch this week's episode of "Hell's Kitchen"

  • Vacuum
... think that's it... otherwise I'll come back to add more :)

Thursday, 11th April, 2013

Only managed to get as far as the master bedroom yesterday, and didn't quite get it finished.  I ended up getting four phone calls, including one from my sister in England, so progress was a bit slow.  Mum has her repsite intake interview this morning.  Before that I am taking her shopping for some clothes - a black skirt and a pair of jeans or two.

I need to get a few things done before that happens.

  • washing up the oddses
  • clean sink and surrounds
  • clear off breakfast bar
  • fold the clothes from yesterday
  • have a shower
  • get dressed for the day
  • supervise hair and teeth for everybody

Goals

I've set myself the goal of having our bedroom and the kids' rooms done by the end of today.  If I can get those rooms sorted this week, it will make it easier to work on the rest of the house next week.  Between school, church and family responsibilities I'm not accomplishing much in the house right now.  Chickabid cleaned the bathroom of his own accord this morning which was lovely.

Leftovers

  • clear kitchen benches
  • wipe down benches
  • clean sink
  • mop floor
  • fold clothes
  • put away
  • tidy family room
  • replace toilet linen
  • mop bathroom floor
  • put ironing board away
  • put iron away
Yay!! I managed to complete everything off my list for today, even if they were only the leftovers from yesterday.
The public parts of the house look pretty good now, and as an added bonus I have the chicken for dinner defrosting on the bench.  No take out tonight!!
I'm even feeling strong enough to make another list of things to do today.

A new day, but not a new perspective

My saving grace this week is that Chickabid is on restricted school due to his asthma attack, so it's only the Ladybug that will be doing any school work.
That gives me four weekdays to work on the house while trying to support my Dad in looking after Mum.  Mum has become very much worse in the last month, but especially over the past two weeks.  If things continue to progress the way they are right now, Mum will be in care by the middle of the year if not sooner.
